Sony Xperia M4 Aqua February 18, 2016
It’s been a while since Sony released a mid-range mobile phone. The mobile phone company was busy creating flagship models that cater mobile phone enthusiasts.
Today, we’re going to talk about a new mobile phone from the company that is suitable for people who’re looking for good specs without the premium price tag.
Let’s talk about the design of the phone first. The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is akin to the Xperia Z3 in terms of the design. It still sports what the company calls their “Omnibalance” design in that it feels great no matter how you hold the phone.
Probably the only difference between the Xperia Z3 and the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is that the former is made of metal while the latter is made of polycarbonate plastic. This isn’t to say that the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua’s durability is compromised; it just means that Sony has gone for a different material for this mobile phone.
On the front of the phone lies the screen, the front facing camera and an LED notification just beside it. One unique addition to this mobile phone is that it comes with a dedicated camera button. When pressed, the camera app will start and you can begin to snap some photos.
Now, you’re probably wondering why this mobile phone comes with an “Aqua” moniker to its name. Well, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is a waterproof phone. Sony has made a lot of water-resistant phones over the past years, but this is a little different because the microSD and SIM slots are covered with plastic. This is to ensure that water cannot get past through. If you’re fond of bringing your mobile phone somewhere you’ll get wet (like in a pool or to the beach), then this phone is probably one of the best out there.
The display of the mobile phone is a little bit of a letdown. Whereas the Xperia Z3 has a 1080p screen, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua only comes with a 5-inch 720p screen resolution with a pixel density of 294ppip. The only redeeming quality of the screen is that it is an IPS display, so the viewing angles are fantastic. I just don’t like the resolution, though.
There is something that Sony boasts about the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua, however. The battery life of this mobile phone, at least, what Sony advertised, should last about 2 days. It comes with a 2,400 MaH and the phone also has the “STAMINA” technology where the phone will cut all power-sucking applications when needed to preserve the battery life.
I am a little bit skeptical about this because most other mid-range phones come with more than 2,400 MaH and yet their battery life does not last more than 2 days. Still, I think the STAMINA software does the job of preserving the battery so well.
As for the performance, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua does not disappoint as it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with 4 cores clocked at 1.5GHz and the other 4 cores clocked at 1 GHz. I think part of why this mobile phone’s got a lengthy battery is because of the power-efficient processor.
Lastly, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua has a pretty okay camera with a 13-megapixel rear snapper and an aperture of f/2.0. It also has auto-focus and the camera app is the same as the one found in the Sony Xperia Z3.
With all of these being said, I believe that the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is one of the best mid-range phones on the market.
