Mini-meals and why they are key to helping you lose weight May 2, 2016

There are a plethora of diet plans out there and only a handful of them are proven to be effective for a lot of people.

Some diet plans require you to eat only a few times a day while some diet plans encourage you to eat 6 times a day.

In this article, we will talk about the latter. Specifically, we are going to talk about “mini-meals” and why they are the key to helping you lose weight.

Now, it is (or was) common knowledge that you have to eat 3 large meals during the day. That is why it is subdivided into breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Although there really isn’t anything wrong when it comes to eating only three times a day, many people believe that it could be the culprit why they are gaining weight.

Then, diet plans that try to revamp this system have surfaced. There are now some diet plans that support eating more than three times a day, provided that you eat within your desired calorie range.

If you want to be healthy and you want to lose weight, you have to target a specific calorie limit. For men, it would be 1800 calories a day and for women, only 1500 calories. This should be the maximum number of calories you would want to consume in a given day.

Now that you know the healthy calorie limit per day, we will talk more about mini meals. The concept of mini meals is simple: eat 6 smaller meals all throughout the day so that you will not get hungry.

That is basically the idea of why mini meals are born. You see, some dietitians and even normal people agree that one of the main culprits of gaining weight is that people starve themselves (which is counterproductive by the way).

By starving yourself, you will fall into the trap of eating more calories than you should. Why is this the case? That is because your body needs food to fuel your metabolism. Without eating food, your body will go into “starvation” mode wherein your metabolism is the last thing your body wants to do.

By eating 6 smaller meals throughout the day, you will guarantee your body that it will get a steady supply of calories during the day. This also means that your body will constantly be burning fat in the process.

Now, this may sound counterintuitive to you, but it is actually true. It is one of the most effective ways to lose weight.

Do remember that your calorie limit should not exceed 1800 for men and 1500 for women, respectively. So, plan your meals ahead of time and if you can, get the help of a dietitian to help you plan your meals for the coming weeks or months.

Try eating 6 smaller meals and who knows, you might lose a lot more weight than starving yourself or eating just 3 meals a day.
